There might also be several symptoms, such as blank page on windows update, unable to start system restore, web pages aren’t displaying properly, some applications aren’t working correctly, etc. To fix this, open your command prompt (click Start -> Run, then type cmd) and enter following commands:
IMPORTANT! Do not use this tip if you are on Windows 8/8.1. Doing so will result your “START” button to malfunction – clicking on it will not do anything. For all other versions of Windows, please follow these steps below:
- Run Registry Editor (RegEdit).
- Navigate to the following registry key:
IsShortcutregistry value in the right pane.
- Some other type of documents and files may be shortcut arrow on their icons too. To remove the shortcut arrow overlay image on these icons, navigate to each of the following registry keys, and then repeat step 2 and step 3 above to deactivate the shortcut arrow:
